How do you think human came to envision to develop the technology we see today and in the future leading to unprecedented ethical issues?
Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Automation will transform our world. As our concerned, how, when and where the impact of artificial intelligence will hit hardest. For me, the working opportunities. A two-year study from McKinsey Global institute suggests that by 2030, intelligent agents and robots could eliminate as much as 30% of the world’s human labor (McClelland, 2019). Automation will displace between 400 and 800 jobs by 2030, requiring as many as 375 million people to switch job categories entirely. People are fear and concern about the shift, will we get replaced by AI in some day? Will we be a slave of AI in someday?
Another technology which is developing which might lead to unprecedented ethical issues is using AI in military field. When people think of the use of AI by military, they may first think of the movie ‘Terminator’. Many leading human rights organisations argue that the use of weapons such as armed drones will lead to an increase in civilian deaths and unlawful killings. Others are concerned that unregulated AI will lead to an international arms race (Tannam, 2019).
The next unprecedented ethical issues which AI may lead is the future of privacy. As we all know, people takes their privacy issues very serious. What AI brings to the table is the ability to gather, analyse and combine vast quantities of data from different sources. The speed at which AI does computations is already faster than what human analysts are capable of and it can also be arbitrarily increased by adding more hardware (Deane, 2019). People are unaware of how much data their software and devices generated, process or share. As we become more reliant on digital technology in our everyday lives, the potential for exploitation will only increase.
AI might have humanity issues. As we know, AI learn by collecting and analysing data and make decision based on the data (probability). There is a famous thought experiment in ethics called trolley problem. Most of the AI has been tested with the questions and their answers are different. If an AI is learning something wrong from the data, this might lead to making the wrong decision.
